Nepal Requests Access to Dhamra and Mundra ports of India

February 10: Government representatives of Nepal and India on Friday (February 8) discussed about the possibility of making India’s Dhamra port in the eastern coast and Mundra port in the west accessible to Nepal. The discussion took place during a meeting held in Pokhara to review the trade agreement between the two countries.

Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Commerce, Shankar Sainju, informed New Business Age that the Indian side is positive about allowing Nepal to use the ports for trade purpose.

Orissa’s Dhamra port situated in the Bay of Bengal is 503.9 km closer to Nepal in comparison to the Vishakhapatnam port which Nepal has been using. Joint Secretary Sainju further said that the Nepali officials also requested for access to Mundra port of Gujarat.

According to sources, this is the first time Nepal made request to India for the uses of the two ports.
