The First Regional Conference of ‘WePOWER’ kicks off in Kathmandu

February 20: The first regional conference of the Women in Power Sector Professional Network (WePOWER) kicked off in Kathmandu on Wednesday, February 20.

The two-day conference is being organised by the World Bank’s South Asia Energy and Social Development Unit.

The programme  is being organised with an objective to provide opportunities for women in the energy sector.

Delegates from South Asian countries like Afghanistan, Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal as well as European countries are participating the programme. According to the programme coordinator, the conference will support in greater participation of women in the energy and education sectors.

On the first day of the programme, WePower partners from different countries presented the lists of their activities and goals for the upcoming years. Among them, the participants have proposed study tour to hydropower projects, hands-on technical training, technical webinars for female engineers among other activities by 2020.

The partners believe that such activities will support in the creation of a committee for women engineers in Nepal.
