Trade of Oranges Reaches Rs 750 million in Dharan

March 6: Dharan’s agriculture market traded oranges worth Rs 750 million by mid-February of the current fiscal year 2018/19. This year, Dharan recorded a rise in the trade of oranges. The market traded oranges worth Rs 610 million in the corresponding period of last year, said Laxman Bhattarai.

The market received 8,729 metric tons of oranges from the districts like Bhojpur, Tehrathum, Khotang, according to Bhattarai.

Bhattarai said that the cost of the orange has increased due to the rise in demand.

“The average wholesale price of orange per kg was Rs 85,” said Bhattarai adding, “This year, the price has not dropped below Rs 100 per kg.”

Santosh Rai, a local farmer of Dhankuta, said that the sale of oranges this year has remained satisfactory.

Five to seven tons of oranges are traded from the agriculture market of Dharan alone on a daily basis.

Dharan supplies oranges to eastern cities of Nepal including Itahari, Biratnagar,Damak, Birtamod, Rajbiraj, Lahan and Janakpur.
