Govt collects Rs 40 million from Climbers this Season

March 27: The government has given permit to 14 expedition teams for scaling different mountains since the start of the spring season, which is considered ideal for climbing mountains. The Department of Tourism issued permits to 103 persons from 14 agencies between March 1 and 26.

The department said that it has collected revenue of Rs 70.78 million from climbers so far this season. The department collected Rs 30.88 million on Tuesday (March 26) alone. Eight expedition teams submitted the royalty on Tuesday.

According to the department, the government allows mountaineers to climb the peaks during a 75-day window period. The climbers must complete their quest within the period considered safe for mountaineering.

The department has issued most of the permits for Everest expedition. Out of the total applicants, 42 climbers from four agencies have sought permission for climbing Mt Everest. Likewise, 23 climbers from three expedition teams have received permits to scale Mt Annapurna. One team each has sought permission to climb seven other peaks.

Ten icefall doctors have been assigned to fix the ropes for climbing Everest since February 27.
