Finance Minister Defends Low Capital Expenditure

May 15: Finance Minister Yuva Raj Khatiwada has defended the low capital expenditure of the government stating that the government failed to spend much on the aforementioned head in the current fiscal year as it was busy drafting laws.

The finance minister made such remark at a meeting of the house of representatives on Tuesday while replying to the queries of lawmakers regarding the priorities of the Appropriation Bill. Admitting that the capital expenditure in the current fiscal year was much less than the government’s target, Finance Minister Khatiwada said that the spending will be encouraging in the upcoming year.

“We haven’t been able to spend the capital expenditure as much as we wanted to,” said Khatiwada, adding, “We have the right to defend ourselves with proper explanation. We were busy drafting laws.”

The finance minister said that the government was busy drafting laws for the first eight months of the current fiscal year.
