Reconstruction of Patan’s Bhimsen Temple gains Momemtum with Local Support

July 12: The rebuilding of the Bhimsen Temple at Patan Durbar Square has gained momentum with a contribution of Rs 10 million from the Lalitpur Metropolitan City.

The temple which is almost four centuries old also received financial support of Rs 10 million from BK Shrestha, chairman of Everest Bank who comes from a renowned merchant family of Patan.

Likewise, the the Province 3  Government has also pledged to contribute Rs 5 million for rebuilding the temple for which the total cost it is estimated to be Rs 49.3 million.

Shrestha said he is contributing the amount in memory of his late father Sahu Ganesh Lal Shrestha, a renowned merchant of Patan of his time. 

“I feel fortunate to have this opportunity to extend this support. Lord Bhimsen is not only a deity of Patan but of all Newars. My father, Sahu Ganesh Lal had extended support to this temple during his times. Then after, our family has remained associated with this temple in various capacities. I take this opportunity as my duty towards ancestors,” said Shrestha.   

Shrestha handed over a cheque worth Rs 10 million to Shree Bhimsen Mandir Rebuilding Committee in the presence of Lalitpur’s Mayor Chir Babu Maharjan and Krishna Lal Maharjan, president of Lalitpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry among others.
