Nepal Logs Trade Surplus with 48 Countries

February 22: During the period, when Nepal is having deficit trade balance with most of the countries, it has logged profit in foreign trade with few countries. According to the statistics of Trade and Export Promotion Centre (TEPC), Nepal logged profit with a total of 48 countries in foreign trade during the last FY 2072/73.

Nepal has deficit trade balance with more than 140 countries among 190 trade partner countries. Britain holds the first position with which Nepal has surplus international trade balance. According to the centre, Nepal earned Rs 641.1 million profit from the trade with Britain last FY. During the period, Nepal exported Rs 2.851 billion worth of merchandise and imported Rs 2.21 billion worth of merchandise.

Similarly, America is another country with which Nepal has surplus international trade. In the FY 2072/73, Nepal earned Rs 637.7 million profit from the trade with America. During the period, Nepal imported Rs 9.34 billion worth of merchandise and exported Rs 8.70 billion worth of merchandise to America. Nepal has least trade surplus with Western Sahara of Rs 8000, according to the statistics. During the period, Nepal exported merchandise of Rs 8000 and no goods were imported from the country.

Nepal recorded foreign trade surplus with countries including Britain, America, Norway, Afghanistan and Iran. Apart from these, Nepal has surplus trade balance with Venezuela, Nigeria, Mali, Portugal, Monaco, Laos, Congo, Tokelau Panama, Rwanda, Guadeloupe, Sudan, Mongolia, Uganda, Libya and Syria. As per the TEPC, Nepal specifically exported cotton, readymade garments, handicrafts, leather product, coffee and dairy products to these countries.
