Investment of Rs 9.5 Billion on Upper Myagdi 1 Hydropower Project

June 6: A hydropower project with the capacity of 53.5 MW is being constructed in Myagdi also known as ‘Hydro District’.  The project is being developed by Himalayan Infrastructure Fund Ltd. “The run of the river project is in surveying phase and its Environmental Impact Assessment is being conducted,” said Upendra Raj Gautam, Director of Infrastruture Fund.  

The project which will have a dam near Khamla, Mudi, Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 and a powerhouse near Bharwang, Maalika Rural Municipality-7, will have a 5.5 km tunnel. According to the project, the estimated budget of the project is Rs 9.33 billion. The project has allocated 10 percent shares to the locals of affected area. Moreover, it will also spend 0.5 percent budget in local level under Environmental Management Plan. The project will enter into construction phase after finalizing detail survey, power purchase agreement (PPA) and financial resources.
