The government has moved a bill into the parliament with provision to increase the compulsory retirement age for the civil servants from current 58 to 60 years.
The Civil Service Act 1993 third amendment bill with such provision was approved by the government on December 12. The government has argued that the revision in the retirement age was needed in view of the increased longevity of the Nepali people.
The government formed after the first election following the 1990 popular uprising had reduced the retirement age from 60 years to 58 years in 1993.
