July 30: Nepal imported eight different essential goods worth Rs 573 billion in the last fiscal year 2016/17. Statistics maintained by the customs department show that the total export during the corresponding period was worth Rs 5.33 billion.
In the review period of 12 months, Nepal’s major import was petroleum products along with wax. The country spent a total of Rs 140 billion for petroleum while the government collected revenue worth Rs 32.77 billion from it.
Likewise, ireon worth Rs 93.71 billion was imported last year. Other major imports were machinery and equipment (Rs 82.13 billion), spare parts (Rs 79.50 billion), electrical appliances (Rs 70.6 billion), food (Rs 40.15 billion), plastic items (Rs 35.14 billion) and valuable stones and minerals (Rs 32.13 billion).
