Construction of Rukumgad Hydropower Commencing from mid-November

September 20: The construction of the 5MW capacity Rukumgad Hydropower Project in east of Rukum will start from mid-November. The project has set a target to complete the construction hydropower station within two years.

The project site lies on the Rukumgad River between Sisne Rural Municipality 5 and Bhume Rural Municipality 4. The estimated cost of the project is said to be Rs 1 billion.

Prime Commercial Bank, Kumari Bank and Century Bank will be investing around Rs 700 million while the promoter company CEDB Hydro Fund will invest Rs 300 million.

According to Prem Saud, public relations officer of the constructing company, paper works related to policy and financial management work is being done in the first phase.

He further informed that land purchase has already finished. “Work on the physical infrastructure will gain pace from mid-November,” he said.

According to Saud, the project is expected to complete within 2019/20.

Rapti Hydro and General Construction has been assigned the project. The electricity procurement agreement with Nepal Electricity Authority (NEC) has already been finalized, the company informed.

One of the big hydropower plants of the district is supposed to solve the electricity problem even in the neighboring districts of Rukum.

Tir Gharti, a local of Bhume Rural Municipality, said that the construction of the project will provide relief from electricity shortage.

Similarly, Tek Bahadur Pun, president of Rukum Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed his belief that the construction of the hydropower plant will help in establishing small and big industries in Rukum.
