Budhi Gandaki Project to be Constructed with Nepali Investment

November 24: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said that the government is preparing to hand over the construction of Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project to a Nepali company. Speaking at an election campaign in Musikot, Rukum , he shared that the Budhi Gandaki Project will be constructed with investment from within the country. “The hydropower project has a potential to generate 1,200 Megawatt electricity. So, this is an opportunity for us to invest in a project which has a big value for the nation,” he shared.

Prior to this, the responsibility of construction of the project was given to Gejuwa , a Chinese company during the tenure of Pushpa Kamal Dahal-led government. The decision was cancelled on November 13 by a cabinet meeting as per the directive of the Irrigation and Water Resources Committee of the parliament.

PM Deuba shared that investing in hydropower sector will contribute to increase in the number of industries in Nepal. “Prosperity of industries will definitely create more employment opportunities for Nepalis and will help in economic growth,” he said.
