Ritual Baking Ceremony ahead of Christmas to help Underprivileged Children

December 1: With the Christmas just around the corner, a ritual baking ceremony was organised at Hotel Yak and Yeti on Friday, December 1 to keep alive the tradition as well as to support underprivileged children.

Season making and baking prior to Christmas is believed to be a harbinger of good tidings and happiness. Imbibing with the spirit of this ritual, the hotel gave continuity to this tradition this year as well by decorating ginger bread house, cutting cookies and inaugurating a wish tree, reads a press statement issued by the hotel.

The wish tree was set up to support the underprivileged children of Bal Mandir, the statement said. The children were asked to write down their wishes and place it at the tree. The hotel has requested its guests to fulfill the wishes of the children, giving them a feeling that their wishes were fulfilled by Santa Claus.

The hotel informed that the season making and baking commemorates the tradition of making decorated gingerbread houses and cookies cutting which began in Germany about 200 years ago.

After the publication of the renowned Brothers’ Grimm fairy tale Hansel and Gretel, German bakers began creating ornamental houses made from gingerbread. The culture soon spread to other countries and is given continuity by Christians across the globe.
