Biratnagar Jute Mill Now Can Sell its Properties

May 17: The Supreme Court has annulled the government’s decision to halt the sale of properties of Biratnagar Jute Mill. The mill now can sell its properties following the verdict issued by a division bench of justices Om Prakash Mishra and Meera Khadka.

The government on April 19, 2017 had issued a letter to the mill to halt the sales of valuable antique properties belonging to the mill. Arguing that the government had infringed on the the company’s right, the mill’s current CEO Nil Hari Kafle had had filed a  writ petition at the Supreme Court on May 7, 2017.

Kafle had filed petition under Section 7 of the Companies Act 2063 which mentions that corporate companies are self-governed companies which can deal with their properties on their own.
