Reconstruction of Central Bank’s Building Courts Controversy

October 25: The National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) has forwarded the file related to reconstruction of Nepal Rastra Bank’s building to the council of ministers after the decision to award the contract to a Chinese joint venture company courted controversy.

Joint Secretary at the reconstruction authority Rajuman Manandhar informed New Business Age that the NRA decided to forward the file to the cabinet for final decision following widespread criticism for handing the project to Chinese joint venture company, SRBC Pappu JV.

Manandhar said that the NRA has not been able to sign the contract due to the massive criticism against Pappu Construction in social media. The NRA had approved Pappu Construction’s proposal last month.

“We have forwarded the file to the cabinet. Now, either the cabinet will decide the issue or we will work according to the instruction of the cabinet,” said Manandhar.

However, the council of ministers is yet to take any decision on the issue.

The reconstruction has been delayed as the NRA waits for the decision of the council of ministers.
