‘Handing over Fast Track Project to Nepalese Army has created Problems’

December 2: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Raghubir Mahaseth has said that handing over the Kathmandu-Tarai Fast Track Project to the Nepalese Army without discussions with the ministry and the Department of Roads has created problems.

The minister also said that the project was handed over to the Nepalese Army through political decision although the involvement of the ministry was a must in the much-awaited road project.

“The role of the ministry in the project is limited to transferring the money for the construction to the account of the Nepalese Army after receiving the funds from the finance ministry,” he said.

Mahaseth also expressed his dissatisfaction over the fact that the ministry should also seek approval from the Nepalese Army to inspect the project.

“The ministry should be allowed to inspect the project,” Mahaseth said, adding that the Nepalese Army has started the construction works without preparing the detail project report (DPR).

Mahaseth further questioned on what basis was the tender approved for the construction of 30 bridges along the fast track.
