December 23: Finance Minister Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada has said that the government is expanding the tax. The finance minister made such remark while inaugurating a newly-constructed building of the Internal Revenue Office in Nepalgunj on Saturday, December 22.
According to Rastriya Samachar Samiti, Minister Khatiwada said during the function that businesspersons would be brought under the tax net. The state-run news agency reported that the tax net is being expanded based on geography and the establishment of revenue office in Surkhet is the example of this.
The finance minister shared that efforts were on to expand revenue offices in various geographical regions.
“If the taxpayers are discouraged, they can lodge complaints at the concerned offices,” the RSS quoted the minister as saying.
"In case of political pressure, both the payers and receivers can contact me. Adherence to law and regulations is imperative in the financial transaction."
According to him, sub-customs offices would be made more functional and well managed in order to revive the smooth collection of revenue from various parts of the country. The sub-customs offices would be set up in new border points, the minister shared the government’s plan.
