Equal Pay for Equal Labour to Implemented: Minister Bista

December 27: Minister for Labour, Employment and Social Security Gokarna Bista has stated that the government is committed towards effective implementation of the equal work and equal pay policy, according to a news published by Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS).

Equal work and equal pay refers to the principle that men and women should receive equal pay for work of equal value to end the gender pay gap. The state-run news agency further said that the ILO, in 2011, had estimated that at the current rate of progress it would take until 2086 to close the gender pay gap.

Inaugurating the Annual General Meeting of the Nepal Film Technicians Association on Wednesday (Decemebr 26), Minister Bista said that there was no disparity in the remuneration between men and women in the government service.

Stating that the government through the Labour Act had mandated the minimum wages for the labourers in every sector, Bista reaffirmed, "The labourers working in all sectors would receive minimum wages as fixed by the government, including the film industry."

According to him, the labourers working in the multidimensional sector would also be brought under the ambit of social security scheme recently introduced by the government.

He assured that the artistes and technicians working in the entertainment sectors would be ensured social security.
