KMC Launches Smart Parking in New Road

June 17: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has launched ‘Smart Parking’ in New Road area of Kathmandu from Sunday to properly manage the parking problem in the metropolis.

The new system of parking which is available in Bishal Bazar and Dharmapath in the first phase will be gradually extended to other areas like Pyukha, Khichapokhari, Pako and Durbar Marg, according to KMC.

The service is available at one’s fingertips through android smartphones. Users have to download ‘Park KTM’ application from PlayStore and book the parking lot. One can easily find out about the free lots in the parking area through the app. The service seekers must arrive at the parking lot within 15 minutes after booking the lot otherwise the free space will be allotted to someone else.

According to KMC, there are 48 CCTV cameras to ensure that the vehicles do not get stolen.

KMC officials believe that this new system will discourage those who take up the parking lot for the whole day creating problems for others.

“We have issued a tender to construct a building for the parking lot. For the time being, we will manage parking in open areas,” said Bidya Sundar Shakya, mayor of KMC.

The metropolis introduced this new system of paid parking in collaboration with Wheels Truly Yours.

Altogether 800 two-wheelers and 40 four-wheelers can benefit from the app. Two-wheelers have to pay Rs 25 per hour for parking while the parking cost for four-wheelers is Rs 80 per hour.
