July 9: Karnali Province has distributed 375,000 saplings of black cardamom to the farmers of Dailekh under the provincial government’s ‘One election constituency, one black cardamom pocket area’ campaign.
The provincial government has sent the saplings to the Agriculture Knowledge Centre, Dailekh for distribution.
The Karnali Province distributed the saplings to commercialize black cardamom farming in the province by developing pocket areas, informed the centre.
The saplings were provided under the provincial government’s complementary grant to the farmers.
Out of the total saplings, 120,000 will be distributed in Narayan Municipality, 15,000 in Bindhyabasini Ward-11, 125,200 in Mahabu Rural Municipality,and 115,000 in Naumule Rural Municipality.
In the first phase, the provincial government has developed black cardamom farms in 70 hectares of land in 3 local units of constituency 1 in Dailekh, said program coordinator Bhakta Kishor Shrestha. For this, the government has established 15 plastic-bed ponds and 4 concrete ponds, added Shrestha.
The pocket areas will be developed in other constituencies in the second phase soon.
