July 14: Kolkata Port Trust has caused obstruction to Customs Transit Declaration (CTD) on goods imported from third countries to Nepal via Kolkata.
Due to the dilly-dallying in loading goods on railway container by the authorities in Kolkata, Nepali importers have adopted alternative means to transport the goods.
After the authorities denied clearance for loading the goods, the importers took the containers to the City Care Godown and loaded themselves.
Altogether 62 containers were loaded on Saturday despite obstruction from Indian authorities, said an office bearer of Nepal Cargo Handling Agent Association.
The port authorities have taken a stance not to allow loading the goods until there are 90 containers.
Nepali importers said that their goods were stuck at the port for 13 days due to the lack of cooperation from the port authorities.
The importers loaded the goods by hiring racks on condition that they would pay the charge of additional 18 containers. The importers also have to pay fine of 13 days. The Indian port charges Rs 24,000 fine per container for delay in clearing the goods for one day.
