Government Increases Spending Spree

July 16: The Ministry of Finance has released development budget of Rs 29.68 billion in the last week of the current Fiscal Year 2075/76. With the current fiscal year coming to an end on July 16, the government increased its spending spree from July 8 to July 14 while this data was collected.

According to data provided by the Financial Comptroller General’s Office,  the ministry released Rs 5.70 billion in a single day on July 14, when the total daily expenses till March 14 was only between Rs 290 million to Rs 500 million.

This shows that there has not been any improvement in the disbursement system. Soon after Dr Yuba Rraj Khatiwada was appointed as the minister for finance on February 26, 2018, he had announced that the disbursement system would be made easy and systematic.

However, the trend of not making payment in the beginning of the FY and releasing the budget at the end of the FY has remained prevalent in the current FY as well.

Deputy Financial Comptroller General Jagannath Devkota says that the trend is not different than last year.
