July 21: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has received the highest number of complaints in the last fiscal year in its entire 29-year history. A report made public by the anti-graft body on Friday, July 19, states that a total of 24,048 complaints were filed at the CIAA.
CIAA said it succeeded in solving 15,611 cases out of the total complaints.
CIAA Spokesperson Pradeep Kumar Koirala said that the number of complaints were high in the last fiscal year as compared to the previous FY. In FY 2017/18, altogether 19448 cases were filed at the anti-graft body.
CIAA’s success rate in dealing with the complaints was 88.55 percent while only 83 cases were forwarded to higher courts, informed Koirala.
Some of the high-profile cases the CIAA dealt with during the last FY were the irregularities in Sikta Irrigation Project (Rs 2.16 billion), land lease of Bhrikutimandap Fun Park (Rs 310 million) and Jabdikhola Bridge in Bardiya (Rs 190 million).
