November 12: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has started restructuring itself to adjust in the federal structure adopted by the country in accordance to the new constitution.
In the first step, NEA has already shifted its regional offices and distribution centres under the jurisdiction of the respective provincial office from the Distribution and Customer Service Directorate.
The newly established provincial offices will mainly focus on electricity distribution. NEA is also planning to operate the provincial offices in a company model. The NEA has already adopted company model approach in generating electricity. However, the NEA is still not certain whether to transform the provincial offices into company model or to register new companies, said Kulman Ghising, executive director of NEA.
He said that the NEA is holding discussions regarding the structure of the would-be companies in the new federal set-up.
