Training Programme Organized for Women Entrepreneurs of Biratnagar

January 14: A training programme related to women entrepreneurship has been organized in Biratnagar with the intention of increasing the number of women in business and building their entrepreneurial capacities.  

The training programme, held on Monday, was jointly organized by Morang Merchants’ Association (MMA) and Chamber of Industries Morang (CIM). More than 200 women entrepreneurs participated in the event.

Most of the attendees complained that the cash grants distributed by the governments never reach the target group (women entrepreneurs).

New Business Age Pvt Ltd signed an agreement with the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FNCCI) on December 31, 2019 to promote women entrepreneurship and the training was organized as part of that agreement, as informed by Mallika Rijal, coordinator of the Women Entrepreneur Development Committee, CIM.

The title sponsor of the programme is Standard Chartered Bank Limited and it was organized in association with Muktinath Development Bank. FNCCI along with chambers of 10 different districts and Federation of Woman Entrepreneurs' Association of Nepal (FEWAN) are associate partners for the event while Star Hospital is the medical partner. The programme is also supported by Sitaram Gokul Milks, Nimbus Group, Progressive Finance and Reliable Life Insurance.

Shedding light on the objective of the programme, Chairman of New Business Age Madan Lamsal stated that women could contribute a lot to the business sector and that the programme had been organized to empower business leadership of Nepali women.

Financial literacy, process of starting a business and mitigating any operational problems that the women entrepreneurs may face and various related agencies and bodies were the main topics covered during the training.

The attendees also raised queries about the banking bureaucracy, process to obtain a loan, tax and duties which were addressed and clarified during the training programme.

The training is also a part of the ‘Nubiz Business Woman Excellence Award 2020’ being organized by New Business Age this year.

Speaking at the event, CIM President Bhim Ghimire expressed that many noteworthy women were active in various entrepreneural sectors and said that at least three women would be felicitated in the award. He also said that CIM would be responsible for taking the problems faced by the women to the government. He further asked the attendees to take the initiative to achieve financial prosperity and step outside of economic dependency. He also expressed CIM’s willingness to coordinate with the banks to solve the entrepreneur’s banking problems.

Also at the event, MMA Acting President Navin Rijal stressed the need for women to come out of the house and involve themselves in the business sector.  He also informed everyone that CIM and MMA were soon going to start a ‘help desk’ to help women entrepreneurs with their problems.

The next training programme will be held in Janakpur, Province 2. The previous training programme was held in Birtamod, Jhapa.

Once the training programmes are held in all seven provinces in Janakpur, Hetauda, Narayanghat, Pokhara, Butwal, Surkhet and Dhangadhi, New Business Age will organise the ‘Nubiz Business Woman Excellence Award 2020’ which will be attended by more than a thousand women entrepreneurs from all over the country.

The award will feature six different categories under which various women entrepreneurs will be felicitated.
