COVID-19 Cases Surge to 217 in Nepal

May 13: Government authorities confirmed 83 new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday. With this, the total number of cases has reached 217 in the country.

During a regular press briefing, the Ministry of Health and Population confirmed 57 new cases following lab tests in the capital. The ministry later issued a late night statement adding 26 more cases. It is the highest confirmed cases in a single day ever since the first case was reported in the capital in January.

Among the new cases, 57 were confirmed in Parsa, 9 in Rupandehi, 8 in Kapilbastu, 2 in Mahottari, 2 in Dhanusha, 2 in Bhaktapur, 1 in Sarlahi, Kathmandu and Bara.

The ministry informed that the health condition of all the patients is normal.

The health ministry informed that they have so far tested 18,964 samples through PCR method and 59,627 through RDT method.

The first case of COVID-19 was reported on January 23 in a Nepali student who returned from China’s Wuhan, where the disease is believed to have originated. Till date, 33 people have recovered from coronavirus in Nepal.
