Three hydropower projects initiated in Rasuwa under the leadership of Chilime Hydropower, a subsidiary of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), have been completed.
A total of 168 MW of electricity from these projects has been connected to the national transmission grid through a 220/132/33 kV substation constructed by NEA in Thambuchet, Aamachodingmo Rural Municipality, Rasuwa.
The projects include the Upper Sanjen (14.8 MW), Sanjen (42.5 MW), and Rasuwa Gadhi (111 MW) hydropower projects.
Among these, the Upper Sanjen project was completed more than a year ago. The electricity generated by the project is worth Rs 300 million has been sold so far.
Similarly, the Sanjen and Rasuwagadhi hydel projects have started generating electricity as part of the trial phase.
They are set to begin, if the trial succeeds, commercial electricity generation by mid-December, reported RSS, the state-owned news agency.
The production from these run-of-the-river-based projects will, however, decline to 80 MW in the dry season.
Chilime Hydropower, under its supervision, has initiated four projects with a total capacity of 270 MW. The 102 MW Middle Bhotekoshi Project in Sindhupalchok is under construction.
Kulman Ghinisng, Managing Director of NEA, told RSS that successful completion of the projects after overcoming numerous challenges was a significant achievement for the organisation.
The projects were affected by the 2015 earthquake and its aftershocks, floods and landslides, weak geological conditions, poor transportation infrastructure and the Covid pandemic.
