Nepal Police has estimated that up to 1.8 million people will leave the Kathmandu Valley during this year's festive season, which is 500,000 more than last year’s Dashain festival.
Bishwaraj Khadka, spokesperson for the Kathmandu Valley Traffic Police Office, stated that if the weather remains favorable, around 1.8 million people are expected to depart the valley. Last year, approximately 1.3 million people left the valley to return to their hometowns for the holidays.
Khadka also mentioned that discussions with relevant stakeholders have been held to minimize road accidents during the festive season. The main causes of road accidents in Nepal are poor condition of roads, overcrowded vehicles, excessive traffic, and over-speeding.
To address these issues, Khadka said an integrated security plan is being developed in coordination with the three districts of the valley, aiming to reduce road accidents during the festive season. -- RSS
