A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck Sindhupalchowk district at 2:51 AM local time on Friday, February 28, according to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center (NEMRC).
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported a slightly lower magnitude of 5.5, stating that the quake's epicenter was located 14 kilometers south of Kodari, at a depth of 10 kilometers.
Kodari is a small village near the Nepal-Tibet border.
Strong tremors were felt across the Kathmandu Valley and several other regions of Nepal. The impact was also felt in Patna, Bihar, an Indian state bordering Nepal.
This earthquake follows a 6.8-magnitude quake that struck Dingri County in Xigaze, Tibet, on January 7, that claimed over 100 lives.
Sindhupalchowk was one of the worst-affected districts during the 2015 Gorkha earthquake in which approximately 9,000 people lost their lives.
