Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is set to sign agreements on various infrastructure, trade, and development projects during his ongoing official visit to China.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Prithvi Subba Gurung, announced that the agreements include the construction of border management check posts on the Araniko Highway as well as Hilsa-Simikot road and Korala ICP.
Development projects such as the Khandbari-Kimathanka road as well as the Friendship Bridge over the Arun River are also part of the agenda.
Other agreements include the study of the Jilung-Kerung-Kathmandu Cross-Border Railway Project, the construction of the Tokha-Khare Tunnel Road, and the establishment of an industrial zone in Korala. Additionally, Nepal plans to develop a multifunctional quarantine laboratory in Kathmandu and an agricultural infrastructure development park in Korala.
The visit will also finalize Nepal’s acceptance of a $20 million cash grant and a 300 million RMB financial and technical grant from China. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Nepal Television, Radio Nepal, and China Media Group is expected to be signed to enhance cooperation in public broadcasting.
China will further support Nepal by providing 100 electric vehicles, 100 police vans, 50 school vans, and 50 ambulances as part of this partnership.
Prime Minister Oli flew to Beijing on a special chartered plane of Himalaya Airlines on Monday for a four-day official visit. He was accompanied by key officials, including Foreign Minister Dr. Arju Rana Deuba, Chief Advisor Bishnu Prasad Rimal, Economic and Development Advisor Dr. Yubaraj Khatiwada, MPs, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, senior government officials, and industry representatives.
Ahead of the visit, the Government of Nepal approved an MoU for a Development Plan with China for the period 2025–2029. The Council of Ministers, in a meeting held on Sunday, authorized the Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to sign the agreement.
Another MoU on the mobilization of the Chinese Language Development Program in Nepal was also approved. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology will sign and implement the agreement in collaboration with its Chinese counterpart.
