The District Administration Office (DAO), Kathmandu, has imposed a curfew in Tinkune and surrounding areas after pro-monarchy protests turned violent on Friday.
The curfew, effective from 4:25 PM to 10 PM, covers areas from Gaushala to the Airport, Gauridhara, Tinkune to Koteshwar, Koteshwar to Jadibuti Bridge, Koteshwar to Balkumari Bridge, Baneshwar to Shankhamul Bridge, and Gaushala Chowk to Naya Baneshwar Chowk via Purano Baneshwor, according to an official notice from the DAO, Kathmandu.
“Movement of people, as well as any form of gathering, demonstration, or assembly, is strictly prohibited during the curfew,” the notice stated.
Videos and images circulating on social media depict enraged protesters breaking windows and setting a building ablaze. The mob also reportedly vandalized the office of the CPN (Unified Socialist) party.
Tensions flared when demonstrators attempted to breach restricted areas, prompting security forces to deploy tear gas and water cannons to contain the situation.
The protests, led by Durga Prasai—Executive Director of Jhapa-based B & C Medical College and a figure embroiled in multiple controversies—have drawn a massive crowd demanding Nepal's reinstatement as a Hindu Kingdom.
