Landslides and floods triggered by continuous rainfall across the country have caused significant loss of lives and property, with Bagmati Province, including Kathmandu Valley, being the most affected.
As of Monday afternoon, a total of 82 people have died in Kathmandu Valley due to the disaster, while another 94 fatalities have been reported across Bagmati Province, outside the Valley.
According to data from the Armed Police Force (APF), 52 people lost their lives in Kathmandu, 25 in Lalitpur, and five in Bhaktapur. Additionally, two people are missing in Kathmandu, one in Bhaktapur, and 12 in Lalitpur, with ongoing search efforts. Fifteen people were injured in Kathmandu, and two in Lalitpur.
Outside the Valley, 59 people were killed in Kavrepalanchok, 13 in Sindhupalchok, seven each in Makwanpur and Dolakha, four in Dhading, two in Sindhuli, and one each in Nuwakot and Ramechhap districts of Bagmati Province. Four people are still missing in Kavrepalanchok, and one in Sindhupalchok. The disaster also left 52 people injured in Kavrepalanchok, four in Sindhupalchok, and one in Makwanpur.
More than 1,000 houses were damaged in Kavrepalanchok, along with 16 in Sindhupalchok and five in Sindhuli.
In Koshi Province, six people lost their lives in Panchthar, five in Solukhumbu, three each in Dhankuta and Jhapa, two each in Sunsari and Ilam, and one each in Terhathum and Okhaldhunga. In Madhes Province, two deaths were reported in Mahottari and one in Rautahat, while two people died in Rupandehi of Lumbini Province.
Death Toll Rises to 217 Nationwide
The death toll from the recent landslides and flooding caused by continuous rainfall has increased to 217, with 28 people still missing, according to the latest update from Home Ministry Spokesperson Rishiram Tiwari. The number of injured has reached 143, with victims receiving treatment at various health facilities.
Nationwide, 1,783 infrastructures were damaged, with three bailey bridges washed away in Panchthar, Sunsari, and Sindhupalchok, alongside 19 other bridges, including five motorable bridges, seven suspension bridges, and four of other types. Flooding also swept away a resort in Udayapur.
Tiwari added that all security agencies have been mobilized for search, rescue, and relief operations, and that the government has prioritized these efforts. Those affected by the floods and landslides are being provided with immediate relief materials. The government is also focusing on reopening blocked roadways as part of the disaster response.
As per the Armed Police Force (APF), 3,401 people impacted by the natural disaster have been rescued so far. -- RSS
