The BP Koirala Memorial Cancer Hospital in Chitwan started preparations to develop infrastructure for launching the bone marrow transplant service.
A five-bed bone marrow transplant unit is going to be set up at the Bharatpur-based hospital with support from China.
Dr Shivaji Poudel, executive director at the hospital, said they have been assured of financial and technical assistance from Nepal’ northern neighbour to set up the facility.
China is expected to support the initiative from building constriction to equipment procurement and training the required manpower.
The building project is expected to begin by the end of 2024 and complete within a year, Dr Poudel said.
Dr Roshan Pokhrel, secretary at the Ministry of Health and Population, and Luo Zhaohui, chairman of China International Development Cooperation Agency, on April 25 signed an agreement regarding the implementation of the project on behalf of their respective governments.
A team from China has already inspected the site selected for the project.
