Bharatpur Metropolitan City has announced a budget of Rs 5.19 billion for the fiscal year 2025/26, which begins in mid-July. The focus is on infrastructure, education, and health.
Deputy Mayor Chitrasen Adhikari presented the budget at the 17th municipal assembly on Sunday, June 22.
To cover the estimated expenses, the city plans to raise Rs 1.8 billion in internal revenue. It expects Rs 2.15 billion from inter-governmental transfers, Rs 319 million from federal revenue sharing and Rs 140.4 million from provincial revenue sharing.
Bharatpur also plans to raise Rs 50 million through public participation, and get Rs 700 million from bank deposits and Rs 30 million from the Road Board Nepal.
The city plans to spend Rs 600 million to complete periodic projects. It has allocated Rs 245 million for multi-year contract payments and Rs 947.8 million for ward-level projects.
Bharatpur has also allocated Rs 40 million for the Gautam Buddha International Cricket Stadium and another Rs 40 million to build a new administrative office.
In education, the city has allocated Rs 105 million to improve access to quality learning. More than Rs 30 million has been set aside to improve services at Bharatpur Hospital, including free outpatient tickets.
The agriculture and livestock sector will receive Rs 90 million to support rural development and productivity.
