Chandra Mabo has claimed to be the first person to reach Tiptala Bhanjyang, Nepal’s border point with Tibet, on a motorcycle.
Located at 5,100 meters in Taplejung, Tiptala Bhanjyang is now accessible via the North-South Highway, which connects Biratnagar’s Rani to the Tibetan border through the Tamor Corridor. The 292-kilometer route is considered to be the shortest link between India and China via Nepal.
Recently, a jeep reached Olangchungola, but Mabo rode an additional 24 kilometers to Tiptala Bhanjyang, according to state-owned news agency RSS.
Tashi Sherpa, an elected representative of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality-7, confirmed this was the first recorded motorcycle journey to the area.
Mabo described the stretch from Sukepani to Olangchungola as particularly challenging.
Rajan Limbu, chairperson of Phaktanglung Rural Municipality, believes Mabo’s achievement will help promote tourism in the region.
Excited locals of Olangchungola, Yangma, and Ghunsa hope road expansion will improve transportation and connectivity.
