Janakpur Bolts claimed the top spot in the Nepal Premier League standings with a thrilling 1-run victory over Lumbini Lions in a low-scoring contest at the TU International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur, on Sunday, December 8.
The Bolts secured their fourth consecutive win, while the Lions endured their fourth straight defeat.
Chasing a target of 137, the Lions needed two runs off the final ball, but Sundeep Jora’s attempted aerial shot found the fielder, leaving them stranded at 135/8. Harsh Thaker, who took a five-wicket haul, defended nine runs in the last over.
The Lions were well-placed at 111/3 with 26 needed off the last three overs, but a flurry of wickets derailed their chase. Skipper Rohit Paudel scored 35 (38), while Tom Moores added 31 (23) and Arjun Saud contributed 20 (23).
Lalit Rajbanshi bowled a tight spell, conceding just 13 runs in four overs with a wicket, while Kishore Mahato and Sher Malla picked up one wicket each.
Earlier, the Bolts posted a modest total, despite a solid start by their top order. Captain Anil Sah led the charge with 45 (39), supported by Aasif Sheikh’s 16 (10) and Lahiru Milantha’s 24 (23). Shubh Kansakar, later, anchored the innings with 22 (24) as other batters faltered.
Abhishesh Gautam stood out for the Lions, taking 3/20 in four overs, while Saad Bin Zafar and Paudel claimed two wickets each, and Jora picked up one.
Thaker was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling. The Bolts now lead the NPL standings with eight points, followed by Sudurpaschim Royals, the only other undefeated team in the competition.
