The Britain Nepal Chamber of Commerce (BNCC) recently concluded its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in London, re-electing Dr. Kapil Rijal as Chairman. Dr. Rijal, a successful entrepreneur, film director, and producer, will continue to lead the organisation in its mission to promote bilateral trade and investment between Nepal and the UK.
The BNCC aims to foster mutual benefits for entrepreneurs from both countries by facilitating business opportunities, promoting interests, and supporting organisations in achieving their goals.
The AGM elected Mr. Biraj Bhatta and Mr. Indra Giri as Vice Chairmen, with Rajendra Shrestha assuming the role of Secretary. Additionally, Steve Buckley has been elected as the new Honorary CEO, succeeding Richard Pelly, who stepped down after a decade of service.
Buckley brings extensive experience to his role, having served as Director of Trade and Investment at the British High Commissions in Thailand and Malaysia. His career in the British Diplomatic Service began in the early 1970s, providing him with in-depth knowledge of trade in the Asia Pacific region.
The executive members elected include Nadia Williams, Santosh Mandal, Kamal Paudel, Anjani Phuyal, B.P. Khanal, Basanta Nepal, Anil Neupane, Prabhu Neupane, Deepak Shrestha, Mitchell Campbell, Krishna Bhatta, Masoud Angiz, Bikash Nepal, and Prakash Dhungana.
During the meeting, newly elected Chairman Dr. Rijal and Vice Chairman Bhatta reviewed the organisation's past activities and achievements and outlined plans for the future. They emphasized the BNCC’s commitment to strengthening trade and investment ties between the two nations. Buckley expressed enthusiasm for leveraging his expertise to further the BNCC's mission.
The event featured Bipin Duwadi, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Embassy of Nepal, as the Chief Guest. Duwadi reaffirmed the Embassy's commitment to supporting the BNCC through initiatives such as the Nepal Development Conference, seminars, and collaborative programs.
Various investors and entrepreneurs from the UK and the Nepali diaspora attended the meeting, highlighting the strong ties between the business communities of both nations.
The BNCC operates under the patronage of Mr. Chandra Kumar Ghimire, Nepal’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom.
