Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker BYD has launched the 2025 edition of its Dolphin EV in Nepal, featuring several key upgrades including a lithium-based auxiliary battery—the first of its kind in the country.
Cimex Inc. Pvt. Ltd., BYD’s authorised distributor in Nepal, officially unveiled the new model on Sunday, June 22.
The 2025 Dolphin replaces the traditional lead-acid battery with a 12-volt Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) version. According to Cimex, this new battery offers improved safety, a longer lifespan, and comes with a six-year or 150,000-kilometre warranty.
Built on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 and equipped with the company’s proprietary Blade Battery technology, the Dolphin 2025 is powered by a 70 kW permanent magnet synchronous motor delivering 180 Nm of torque. Its 44.9 kWh battery provides a WLTP-rated range of 340 kilometres and supports DC fast charging, allowing 80% charge in around 30 minutes.
Design updates are subtle, including a revised front bumper and a new BYD badge replacing the “Build Your Dreams” emblem. A new Atlantis Grey exterior option has also been introduced, bringing the total number of colour choices to three.
Inside, the car features a 12.8-inch rotating infotainment display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Other highlights include NFC-enabled keyless entry and remote control functionality via the BYD app. Boot space stands at 345 litres, expanding to 1,310 litres with rear seats folded.
Safety remains a priority with a five-star Euro NCAP rating, six airbags, and advanced driver assistance systems such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot detection, and automatic emergency braking.
Priced at Rs 4.115 million, BYD Dolphin 2025 is available for test drives and bookings at BYD showrooms nationwide.
Speaking at the launch, Cimex CEO Sahil Shrestha described the Dolphin as a gateway to an electric lifestyle. “We are creating a growing ecosystem promoting domestic energy use and zero-emission mobility,” said Shrestha, adding that over 830,000 Dolphin units have been sold globally, including around 2,500 currently operating in Nepal since the model’s initial launch in 2023.
Managing Director Yamuna Shrestha added that the updated Dolphin model represented Cimex’s continued pursuit of excellence in driving a greener future for Nepal.
