Chudamani Chapagain has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Nepal Stock Exchange Ltd. (NEPSE).
On Tuesday, April 1, Revenue Secretary Dinesh Kumar Ghimire formally handed him the appointment letter, officially confirming his position.
The CEO post had remained vacant since February 7, 2025.
Out of 10 applicants, five candidates were shortlisted, with Chapagain securing the top position, followed by Narad Kumar Luitel, Purna Prasad Acharya, Badri Prasad Pyakurel, and Hemant Basyal.

However, the selection committee did not disclose the final three names forwarded for the Cabinet’s decision, leading to widespread speculation.
Earlier, media reports citing ministers claimed that the Cabinet meeting on March 24 had decided to appoint Luitel to the position. Following the reports, many congratulated Luitel on social media. However, the Ministry of Finance never issued an official confirmation, raising doubts about the authenticity of the reported Cabinet’s decision.
Senior officials at the Ministry of Finance have criticized the government’s handling of the appointment process, calling for a more transparent and responsible approach in filling such a key position.
