Climatologists have observed significant changes in the monsoon system, attributing these variations to climate change driven by global warming. They noted that this year’s monsoon withdrew from the country 10 days later than in previous years.
Climatologist Manjit Dhakal described the delayed monsoon withdrawal as a shift in the monsoon pattern, which he believes can be linked to the effects of climate change. He also pointed to the heavy rains on September 27 and 28 as further evidence of this impact. However, Dhakal emphasized the need for more research on such climate-related phenomena.
In a brief conversation with an RSS representative, Dhakal advocated for the adoption of climate-friendly development practices to ensure sustainable growth. He stressed the importance of prioritizing climate adaptation programs, referencing the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) findings.
Meteorologist Bishnu Ghimire echoed the call for further research to determine whether the delayed monsoon withdrawal is indeed a direct result of climate change. He also acknowledged that the shifting monsoon pattern is likely influenced by climate change. -- RSS
