Chitwan National Park (CNP) will halt jeep safaris inside the core park area starting June 29 due to the monsoon season.
The annual closure will last until mid-September. However, the reopening may be delayed if monsoon conditions persist.
Park Information Officer Avinash Thapa Magar said the service will resume only after damaged roads are repaired.
Jeep safaris in the park’s buffer zone and surrounding community forests will continue as usual, he added.
Other tourist activities—such as trekking and visits to the crocodile breeding centre—will also remain open.
CNP Chief Conservation Officer Dr. Ganesh Pant said the seasonal closure aligns with global conservation practices. It allows wildlife to remain undisturbed during a sensitive time of year.
He noted that due to overgrown grass and shrubs, it becomes harder to spot animals during the monsoon.
Currently, 32 jeeps operate from the Sauraha area, 10 from Kasara, seven from Meghauli, and five from Amaltari. These services cater to tourists visiting the park for jungle safaris.
