Dense fog and mist have blanketed the Terai district for two consecutive days, significantly disrupting public life. The persistent cold, intensified by the fog on Saturday and Sunday, has particularly impacted children and senior citizens.
In several districts across the Terai, only a few people ventured outdoors due to the ongoing cold wave. Temperatures in Bara and Parsa districts have dropped. Assistant Meteorologist Laxman Kandel from the Meteorological Field Office, Simara, attributed the decline in temperature to the fog and mist in the Madhesh region.
On Saturday, Birgunj recorded a maximum temperature of 15°C and a minimum of 9.5°C. By Sunday morning, the minimum temperature had risen slightly to 10.5°C, while Bara reported 9°C at 8:56 a.m.
To combat the cold, Birgunj Metropolitan City has arranged for firewood distribution at key locations, including Narayani Hospital, New Bus Park Chowk, Ghantaghar Chowk, Maisthan Chowk, and Murali Chowk.
Chief District Officer (CDO) of Parsa, Ganesh Aryal, stated that firewood is being provided to various areas, while thick quilts and warm clothes are being distributed to economically disadvantaged families to help them cope with the harsh weather.
The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecasting Division has urged the public to take extra precautions for their health as the cold wave is expected to intensify in the coming days. -- RSS
