Commercial banks in Nepal earned a combined profit of Rs 30.24 billion during the first five months of the current fiscal year, according to data released by Nepal Rastra Bank. The period spans from mid-July up to mid-December 2024.
This marks a 6.60% increase compared to the Rs 28.36 billion profit recorded during the same period in the previous fiscal year.
Nabil Bank led the list of top profit earners, reporting a profit of Rs 3.49 billion by mid-December 2024. This represents a 17.78% rise compared to its Rs 2.96 billion profit during the same period last year.
Global IME Bank secured the second spot, earning Rs 2.83 billion in profit within the same timeframe.
Out of the 20 commercial banks, six experienced a decline in profits compared to the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year while all other banks reported an increase in profits.
NIC Asia Bank's profit saw the steepest drop, declining by 65.76%. In contrast, Nepal SBI Bank recorded the highest growth, with its profit increasing by 90.48%.
