At least 27 people were killed and 16 have been injured after an Indian bus en route to Kathmandu from Pokhara fell about 200 feet off the road into the Marshyangdi River at Aina Pahara of Aanboo Khaireni Rural Municipality-2, Tanahun, along the Prithvi highway on Friday afternoon.
According to the police, a total of 43 people including the driver were travelling in the bus with a number plate UP 53 FT 7623.
While 26 people–15 women and 11 men–died at Aanboo Khaireni Hospital, one child passed away at the Chitwan-based hospital, Tanahu's Chief District Officer Janardan Gautam confirmed.
Sixteen passengers who were injured in the incident have been brought to Kathmandu in the Nepal Army helicopter for the treatment at Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), according to the Armed Police Force.
