Floods, landslides, and inundation caused by incessant rainfall since last Thursday have claimed 192 lives, while 30 people remain missing, the state-owned news agency RSS reported.
According to the Spokesperson for the Ministry of Home Affairs, Rishiram Tiwari, 194 individuals have been injured in the disasters across the country. He told RSS that security forces mobilized for search, rescue and relief operations safely evacuated over 4,500 people affected by the calamities.
Emergency relief materials, including food, have been distributed to the flood and landslide survivors, and the injured are receiving free treatment. Tiwari also noted that efforts are underway to clear the obstructed highways to resume traffic flow.
According to police sources, Bagmati Province was the most affected by the recent disaster where at least 143 people lost their lives.
Preliminary reports indicate that at least 79 people died due to rain-induced disaster in the Kathmandu Valley, including 52 in Kathmandu, 22 in Lalitpur and five in Bhaktapur district.
A total of 322 housing infrastructures were destroyed across the country with the highest of 234 losses in Koshi Province alone.
Incessant rainfall in the weekend also damaged powerhouses and transmission lines of more than a dozen hydropower projects, disrupting electricity supply across much of the country.
According to the Weather Forecasting Division, rainfall receded from Saturday evening but has urged the public to remain cautious until Monday.
