Dr. Raghu Raj Kaphle has been appointed as the Executive Director of the Health Insurance Board.
Kaphle was selected from a shortlist of three candidates recommended to the Council of Ministers by the selection committee, reported to state-owned news agency RSS, citing the private secretariat of Health Minister Pradeep Paudel. The other candidates included Dr. Krishna Prasad Adhikari and Kamal Panthi.
Earlier this month, a total of 10 candidates, initially screened from a pool of applicants, presented their proposals and underwent interviews as part of the selection process.
Dr. Kaphle previously served as a member of the Health Insurance Reform Taskforce, formed by Minister Paudel, which submitted a report outlining recommendations for improving Nepal’s health insurance scheme, RSS reported.
His past roles include serving as Vice Chairman of the Gandaki Policy and Planning Commission, working at the Foreign Employment Board, and holding a senior officer position at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for more than a decade.
Dr. Kaphle, who holds a PhD in economics, also has experience in academia as a professor.
