The drinking water supply pipeline of the Melamchi Water Supply Project, which burst in Thapathali on Tuesday morning, has been repaired.
A technical team from Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) completed the repairs at 4:00 am on Wednesday, KUKL engineer Prakash Baral informed RSS.
The pipeline rupture flooded the stretch from Thapathali Chowk to Norvic Hospital, affecting homes and businesses. The road remains closed to traffic after hundreds of thousands of liters of water gushed out from the main pipeline supplying downtown Kathmandu.
This incident occurred just weeks after a similar pipeline burst in nearby Babarmahal. The Babarmahal rupture, which happened three weeks ago during excavation work for underground electric wire expansion, led to the sudden closure of public offices and even caused a road collapse.
Ashok Kumar Paudel, Chief Executive Director of KUKL, stated that the state-owned utility will form a committee to investigate the Thapathali incident. -- RSS
