Hami Team, a non-profit organisation, has collaborated with Airlift Technology to supply relief materials to Magargaun in Panauti Municipality-12, Kavre.
The district is among the hardest hit by rain-induced disasters in the last week of September. At least 77 people have been killed and 75 injured in the floods and landslides so far in Kavre alone, according to police. Nearly 250 people have lost their lives in the disasters across the county.
Vehicular movement in various places of the district continue to remain disrupted as floods and landslides have damaged several road sections.
Parikshyan Humagain, one of the Hami Team’s volunteers, told RSS, the state-owned news agency, that rice and other materials were flown to Magargaun on Sunday, October 6.
Geographical remoteness has added to the difficulties in carrying out rescue and relief works in the area.
According to the organisation, it has distributed relief materials to 85 families in Magargaun so far.
Drones are flown from Bhumidanda of ward 12 as the road leading to the village from Panauti Bazaar has been damaged.
We plan to send more food materials, solar lights, sanitary pads, and lactogen for children among other things on Monday, October 7, Humagain added.
The drone being used can transport up to 65 kg of materials at a time when the air-flow is normal. “Else, we send 20 kg of the materials at a time,” said Humagain.
The organisation has also collected data of the settlements and households without road connectivity to carry out the relief work effectively.
