Over the past two weeks, Western Nepal has experienced a series of earthquakes and aftershocks, affecting districts across the Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces.
According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Centre, tremors have been felt seven times since December 16. The most recent was a 3.7 magnitude earthquake near Lali in Kalikot, which struck at 11:37 pm on Friday, December 27.
Notable seismic events in the region include aftershocks measuring 4.3 and 4.1 on the Richter scale, which hit near Dhamena, Bajhang, on December 17 and 18, respectively. On December 19, a 4.7 magnitude earthquake struck Nesyang, Manang, followed by a 5.2 magnitude earthquake in Bajura on December 21. A magnitude 4 quake also occurred near Api Mountain in Darchula at 9:25 pm on December 24.
Rupak Mandal, Assistant Chief District Officer of Bajura, had earlier told RSS that some houses collapsed, and many others developed cracks due to the tremors.
Similarly, a 4.2 magnitude aftershock was also recorded in Jajarkot's Nayakwada on December 26.
RSS
