Eggs will be dearer to Nepali consumers from Friday (August 30).
A meeting of Nepal Layers Poultry Farmers Association on Thursday decided to hike the prices of extra large, large and medium-sized eggs to Rs 525, Rs 510 and Rs 435 per crate (30 eggs), respectively.
The prices have been determined by considering Chitwan district as the base, according to the association, which is the union of egg-producing farmers.
The hike comes in less than a week after the association had raised the prices of different sizes of eggs to Rs 515, Rs 495 and Rs 425, respectively, citing an increase in demand following the end of the month of Shrawan.
According to poultry farmers, the egg consumption across the country declines in Shrawan (mid-July to mid-August) as many people, especially the Hindus, observe fasting and avoid eggs and non-vegetarian diets throughout the month.
